An environmental entrepreneur, green consultant, green "start-up" expert, and marketing-PR specialist, John D. Wagner is the award-winning author of 12 books on green building, construction, the supply chain, and corporate management. (His full CV is below; scroll down.) He has also written more than 1,500 periodical articles about home building and commercial construction, among many other topics. His work has appeared in the Wall Street Journal, the Asian Wall Street Journal, the LA Times, Green Builder Magazine (which he co-founded and edited), Popular Science, LBM Journal, Newsday, Chicago Tribune, Fine Woodworking, The Journal of Light Construction, Tools of the Trade, and many other magazines and newspapers. His commentary has been heard on National Public Radio’s All Things Considered.

John currently runs WagnerPR, a boutique media-relations and marketing firm, serving a-list technology clients in the construction sector. John's list of clients currently includes Berkshire Hathaway's MiTek, Berkshire Hathaway's Heat Pipe Technology, BuilderMT, Sales Simplicity, and GreenWizard. WagnerPR's clients include or have included a "who's who" of elite building technology companies.

John is currently managing director (with direct P&L responsibilities) of Certified Green Dealer, LLC, a national online training and certification company that he co-founded. John was also co-founder of Green Builder Media (a venture capital-funded operation), and he was the founding editor-in-chief of Green Builder Magazine, the first national trade magazine focused on green practices for home builders. John was also executive director of corporate communications and investor relations for a well-known dot.com, BuildNet, and in 1999 was a leading member of the team that raised $147 million in multiple rounds of venture funding from Credit Suisse First Boston, SSB, and other investment banks. He has since authored multiple private placement memorandum and helped raise venture funds for other client start-ups.

Among other current activities, John is the green editor/columnist for LBM Journal (40,000 circ.), the leading voice of the lumber and building material dealer community, and the green content contributor to the national Green Dealer Certification program, a web-based distance learning company that trains and certifies dealers for green building. John is also the green building columnist for Qualified Remodeler magazine (90,000 circ.), the green building columnist for Residential Design & Build magazine, and the green building columnist for Granite State Builder and Bay State Builder magazines. John also was on the launch team that created the TV show “Today’s Homeowner with Danny Lipford,” (John served as the host’s ghostwriter), which is broadcast nationally. John’s most recent book is called Green Remodeling (Creative Homeowner Press) and it is available in all 1,800 Lowe’s stores and all 2,000 Home Depot stores.

Currently:

After preparing the company valuation and fund-raising private placement memorandum documents, raised $1 million from venture capital sources for this national, monthly green building magazine (circ: 100,000). Served as managing partner with direct P&L responsibility. Also served as editor-in-chief in charge of all start-up operations, HR, and ongoing magazine operations.

1999-2001 BuildNet, Executive Director of Corporate Communications and Investor Relations

Generated worldwide press and substantial brand equity for BuildNet, a privately-held, $147 million internet and software company, with $85 million in annual revenue. Through increasing levels of a responsibility – brought on by BuildNet’s 11 acquisitions, record private fund raising rounds and revenue that increased from $3.5 to $85 million in 18 months – oversaw all corporate positioning, public relations, investor relations, media relations, and analyst relations as BuildNet grew to 11 constituent companies and 1,200 employees.

• Guided the company’s media and public relations through two record-setting fund-raising rounds, the filing of an SEC S1 document, withdrawal of the S1 and highly publicized multiple work force reductions.

• Briefed investors, potential investors, bankers (SSB, CSFB, Robertson Stephens) and strategic partners on the value of BuildNet, as the company prepared for its IPO “road show.”

1991-1999 Managing Director Wagner Literary, Inc.,

Established and headed up all business development for WL, Inc., a corporate presence for independent work as communications consultant, corporate ghost writer, author, journalist and literary agent. Other notable aspects of his personal history: John has traveled widely in India, Vietnam, Nepal, Thailand, Malaysia, Sumatra, Java, Bali, and Lombok. He lived in Bangkok from 1990-91. He has also traveled and/or lived in Mexico, France, and the Netherlands. He has spoken conversational French, Spanish, and Thai.

In 2008, John climbed an 18,192 ft peak in the Himalayas (Mt. Kala Patar). In 1979, John scaled “The Nose” route of Yosemite’s El Capitan (at 3,000 ft, the most continuously vertical face in North America). He has climbed inside the smoking calderas of two semi-active Indonesian volcanoes (Mt. Bromo and Mt. Batur) and booked a winter ascent of Mt. Washington, NH

John is an avid player of traditional American blues guitar; he also collects rare, first-edition/signed copies of the books of John Cheever, Vladimir Nabokov, and Gabriel Garcia Marquez.
