This comprehensive presentation covers current and historical consumer- and trade-spending trends to explain and understand the depth and breathe of the green building movement...and where it is going. We will also review green rating agencies/labels, and we will learn Wagner’s five core “green consensus principles” which anyone can learn to establish the critical judgment required to determine if a product is green, with or without a label.
There has been a flood of green products entering the market, and this presentation will sort out fact and fiction with regards to green building products, based on “consensus green principles” that have emerged again and again in the various national green building standards. You will learn the difference between green products and "green washed” products and take a look at how builders are finding ways to affordably "green up" their homes to achieve the biggest bang for the buck. This presentation will also highlight what green builders are looking for from dealers and suppliers, so that the end result is a high-performance home that is aesthetically appealing, durable, safe, healthy, energy efficient, and comfortable.
Consumer attitudes towards green and “green trend spotting.”
What green products represent a growth opportunity for contractors and their dealers.
Why Green products cost more and what product areas are seeing prices comparable with non-green products.

FSC vs. SFI, LEED-H vs. NAHB, and LEED vs. Green Globes are just some of the conflicting, confusing standards out there today. After you sort those out, then you can dive into the third-party rating agencies, like Greenguard, SCS, and Green Seal. Then, move onto the carpet and paint rating agencies. It’s a confusing landscape of organizations—some industry sponsored, some government, and some independent. This presentation will sort them all out, with a detailed look at the standards as they break out to certify professionals, houses, and products.
